Adenoids (adenoiditis) spongy masses of lymphoid tissue that occupy the nasopharynx, the space between the back of the nose and throat. When these growths become enlarged, they interfere with normal breathing and sometimes with hearing and normal dental development, resulting in an alteration of facial expression. The disease of the adenoids is common, the symptoms resembling those of tonsillitis, with which it is frequently associated. The adenoids can be seen, above the roof of the mouth and usually cannot be seen. Symptoms are fever, sore throat, and tiredness along with cold symptoms, such as a cough and a runny nose, some times cause snoring. Some people who snore have obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.
